In my opinion, the creators tried very hard to preserve the Swedish language, using only a little “symbolic” English! You have to admire them for being the real Sweden. And yes, they were also very “inclusive,” even with Asperger’s “smart” child who seems to know everything. But while the series is tasteful, low-key and not as self-scolding as other dystopian Viking dramas. The Swedes have always had an ambivalent attitude towards the technology necessary to survive in cold climates, but nevertheless worthy of reproach. There is something very Freudian about all this – eggs, tunnels and the suppression of “all sorts of things” deep inside the mine, I think the series will find its audience.
